All forklifts used in warehouse operations at Powder-Trans are now electric. A 5-tonne and a 2.5-tonne electric forklift are the latest additions to the warehouse management. Since earlier, the rest of the forklifts in the terminal and warehouse functions in both Lieto in Finland and Landskrona in Sweden are powered by electricity.
The fact that the entire fleet of forklifts is now electrically powered improves the working environment in the business. ‘In addition to the fact that the operation does not cause any exhaust fumes, it is a significant work environment issue that the electric forklifts are much quieter in operation than forklifts powered by fossil fuels,’ says Fleet Manager Tero Viitanen. In Lieto, the trucks are also powered by 100% renewable electricity.
‘The goal of our entire forklift fleet being electrically powered has now been achieved so that we can provide thoroughly environmentally friendly operations also in the warehouses and thus be able to achieve the environmental goals in all our logistical stages,’ says CEO Fredrik Blomqvist.
For several years now, Powder-Trans has been largely self-sufficient in electricity production through its own environmentally friendly production from solar panels on the warehouse roof at the terminal in Lieto. For several years, all 120 heavy vehicles in traffic have also been 100% of the highest environmental class Euro 6.
